[REVIEW] Pixi H20 Skindrink

I wasn’t really actively looking for a new moisturizer, but it happened that I was buying my foundation in Sephora and I thought it would be nice to buy a moisturizer that I could use in my upcoming Korea trip. A lot of my usual products tend not to work well in the cold and dry winter because it’s so terribly harsh on my skin – not sure if this is a common problem!

Anyway, I took some time to look at moisturizers and then I saw this moisturizer from Pixi. It’s a brand that’s pretty new to Sephora Singapore, and I previously had a great experience using its Glow Tonic. I tested this out and really liked how hydrating and lightweight it felt, so I ended up buying it and used it everyday during my Korea trip this November.

Product Description

Immediate relief for quenched skin, this intensely moisturising gel delivers a burst of hydration and relief to your skin. The lightweight, cooling formula is contains encapsulated water for fast-acting rehydration while also plumping and stimulating recovery. Enriched with green tea, aloe vera, and rosemary extract, H2O Skindrink helps protect the skin while providing soothing and healing benefits.

Official Retail Price in Singapore: SGD 34

Ingredient List

Water, Glycerin, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, PEG-10 Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Allantoin, Fragrance, Disodium EDTA, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Iron Oxide (CI 42090)

I was interested to see what glycerin is, and what it does for skin. Apparently glycerin works to increase moisture on the skin and lock it in to curb the dryness (source). With two of the top ingredients being water and glycerin, it becomes even more convincing that this moisturizer will deliver.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, aka aloe vera, is also another great ingredient included. We all know that aloe vera is highly effective in treating acne, inflamed skin, sunburns, almost everything your skin is experiencing.

The one thing I’m not very satisfied with is the use of fragrance – in fact,  their amounts greater than that of our plant extracts (aloe vera etc)! Take note if you have sensitive skin!

Packaging: Generally, I’m a huge fan of travel-sized products. They are so compact, you can simply throw them into your makeup pouch without worrying about it being too heavy or taking up too much space.

While this is not travel-sized, its packaging is definitely just as convenient. The tube design is good for squeezing out appropriate amounts of product, so as to minimize wastage. Bonus points for also not having some fragile or delicate packaging that will break easily and create a mess when you are travelling (been there, done that).

Texture: It is so light and easy to absorb that my skin literally soaked up everything in seconds. See the last photo where I spread out the blob of moisturizer on my skin – almost no sign of it at all! This is definitely comparable to my favourite moisturizer from belif.

Effectiveness: Korea’s winters are notoriously cold and dry, so I put this moisturizer to the ultimate test by applying it every morning while I was on holiday.

In the past, I would face all kinds of terrible problems even after using moisturizer. The mildest was seeing my skin peel, and the worst one was a long and persistent breakout. However, I experienced not much of it this time round when I used this moisturizer from Pixi. I did have the occasional breakout, but the skin on my face didn’t even flake. That is an amazing feat, considering that I was breaking out into rashes from my dry skin on my limbs.

Final Verdict

I’ve seen some poor reviews of Pixi’s H20 Skindrink online, mostly talking about how the hydration is not long-lasting, and how it was too oily for them. I was a bit surprised, because I had not experienced any adverse effects after about 2 weeks. In fact, if it wasn’t for this amazing moisturizer, I would probably have my face fully covered in rashes and acne by now.

Would I repurchase this? Yes, I definitely would. I know the price is not very wallet-friendly, but I think for its efficacy, this price is actually quite a good deal. From my experience, a little goes a long way for this moisturizer, so don’t fret about the fact that the volume looks relatively smaller than other products.

  1. Thanks for the review. I’ve been trying a few Pixi products. I, too, suffer from drier skin during the winter months. Although my experiences have been hit and miss with Pixi, I will probably check this one out.
