My Korea Travel Website: THEVYPEFFECT

Hello my dearest readers!

As some of you may already know, I’ve been writing a blog about my travel experiences in Korea, so after my 4th trip last December and a lot of contemplation, I finally decided to upgrade my plan, get myself a domain, and thus…

Why did I do this? Well, it’s been long overdue haha, but mostly because I figured that since I was sharing and getting quite a number of views from it, I might as well run ads on WordAds and earn a bit of money. And that required me to upgrade my plan, so yeah.

I know I probably haven’t travelled as much in Korea compared to the locals, or to expats, or to those who have been on exchange there for 6 months (and more), but I sincerely value all my experiences in the country. I took many photos, recorded as much info as I could, and of course remember vividly many details of each experience I’ve had.

Some online websites or guide books always tell you to go certain tourist attractions, and sometimes I’ve been, well, disappointed, so I always think it’s good to show clearly what really goes on there, and whether it’s worth your time and money. I’m not paid to endorse anything, so everything is my own truthful opinion!

I’ll update more over the next couple of weeks – still clearing a lot of backlog from all my trips tbh, but in the mean time please do enjoy the content I have now, and I hope it will be useful for you if you’re planning a trip to Korea soon!

[REPOST] How the Location of Acne on Your Face Could Explain Why You Break Out — Top Health Fix

I caught this interesting blog post on my WordPress Reader, and thought that this was actually quite accurate. I constantly have acne between my eyebrows and on my cheeks, and do suffer from a poor diet and allergies (to dirt), as identified to be the cause.

If you’re interested to find out more, check out the article below!

Acne is the most common skin condition in the U.S. and other nations of the world. It affects up to 50 million Americans annually, as per information from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). Recurring breakouts can be frustrating, but you’re not alone in this fight against acne. Is Reoccurring Pimple Telling You Something? According […]

[MISC] 6 Cutest K-Beauty Product Packaging

It seems like it’s not just K-idols that are attractive – K-beauty products are well-known for having some of the most adorable packaging around, and we all sometimes fall prey to buying products for the packaging (oops).

Here are 6 of the cutest K-beauty product packaging you can ever find (we have excluded special collaborations in this article). Be warned, I’m not responsible if you are tempted to buy all of them!

1. Peripera Peri’s Mini Fridge

You might have heard about how good & affordable Peripera’s lip tints are, but did you know that Peripera makes the cutest packaging for their products as well? This mini fridge set contains miniature versions of Peripera products (that really work!), which is also a great way for you to try out all of Peripera’s famous products before you commit to buying the full-sized products.

2. MISSHA Wish Stone Tint Water Gel

MISSHA’s water gel lip tint promises high coverage and vivid colours, but when you’re not using it as a lip tint, you can definitely put this on your table as a beautiful crystal display (works even better if you buy more of them to form a pile). When you’ve finished the lip tint, you can even customize this into a cute accessory piece – talk about killing two birds with one stone!

3. Etude House Soft Drink Tint

We all know Etude House has some of the prettiest packaging around, but this really takes the cake. As if a soft drink tint isn’t adorable enough, it even comes in a vending machine packaging? Just take my money already!

4. THE SAEM Chocopie Hand Cream

Choco pie is a very famous snack in Korea that most tourists would definitely buy as a souvenir to bring home, but a chocopie hand cream is seriously ingenious. It makes you wonder if the person who thought of this design was eating a chocopie at that time. What I do know, however, is that looking at this makes me hungry already.

5. THE SAEM Yam Yam Lip Syrup

THE SAEM is clearly winning this packaging game with this lip syrup that reminds you of, well, syrup. Apparently it is infused with the scents of different syrup flavours, so you really feel like you are applying chocolate sauce on your lips. Too cute!

This is for all your alcoholics out there (yes, you, don’t deny it). These are formulated with French wine extracts, hence the wine packaging. You could probably buy lots of these to fill a shelf and pretend that you are a wine connoisseur who has a wine collection at home. Alternatively, you could simply whip this out in public and enjoy a few curious stares from people who think that you are applying wine as lipstick.

[MISC] Fundraising for PAAJAF ♡

Hello readers! Apologies in advance for this post that deviates from my usual beauty ones, but I thought that this would be a very good avenue for me to talk about something close to my heart. Please read on ~

I am currently working on a fundraising project with Paajaf Foundation, a charity in Ghana that provides education and social support systems for children and women, and would like to share more about this with anyone who can give a helping hand:

PAAJAF Educational Institute’s students include 145 poor orphans, underprivileged and neglected children in the Gbawe community, and 14 adults who are trapped in poverty and failed to complete their education. These students currently study on rented premises, but the school will be forced out of its current location if PAAJAF is unable to pay the increased rent by 15 December 2018.

Through this project, we are raising funds to pay the rent, or find a new venue so that all the students can continue their education.

I believe in the importance of a good education, and if you agree with me, please take some time to share about this project with your peers. If possible, please make a small donation – no amount is too small!

Donation link is right here:

[MISC] Instagram!

I ventured into posting on Instagram for my beauty stuff some time this year, but never really developed my account until recently (oops).

If you have Instagram, please do follow me! I try to post flatlays, fun polls, buys, news, and condensed reviews so that you get a lil dose of my blog on your feed ~ You can find me @the_rag_effect heh.

Drop me a DM/comment to let me know that you found my account from this blog, and I will be more than happy to follow you back! 🙂

[THIS VS THAT] Buying K-beauty products on Shopee SG: Lowest Price Guaranteed

Disclaimer: This is not sponsored by Shopee in any way!!

I am purely doing this blog post because I buy lots of makeup and skincare products from Shopee. I find that there are quite a lot of stuff that is heavily discounted, and I do share this with friends, but I’ve had friends asking me about how much discount there is etc. I figured they wouldn’t be the only ones interested in finding out, and it would be cool to compile a list of popular stuff from Shopee and see how much you can save!

I’ll be comparing the prices of 5 products that have been identified by Shopee as Lowest Price Guaranteed so you can see the the maximum savings you can get. Most of the stuff are also labelled as guaranteed to be 100% authentic, so you don’t have to worry that you’re buying a counterfeit because everything is cheaper.

3CE Mood Recipe Multi Eye Colour Palette Eyeshadow

Shopee: SGD 31.90

Stylenanda Official Website: USD 41 (SGD 56.39)

Savings: SGD 24.49

While 3CE retails in Sephora stores, not all their products are available, so you have to order them from their international website – or not, with savings of more than SGD 20 on Shopee. WOW. I’m not sure how much this retails in their Korean stores but if you’re just looking to order it online, why would you not order this from Shopee instead right?

MISSHA Time Revolution First Treatment Essence/ Ampoule

Shopee: SGD 29.90

Savings: SGD 50.00

This gets more and more mind-blowing. This product from MISSHA is said to be a dupe for SKII – it is cheaper than SKII, but the original price is still rather difficult for anyone to fork out immediately. But savings of more than 50% on Shopee? HOW???

Aprilskin Perfect Magic Cover Fit Cushion

Shopee: SGD 25.50

Guardian: SGD 47.00

Savings: SGD 21.50

I’ve seen a lot of advertisements for this product on my Facebook feed and I do have to say that the videos always show this cushion working miracles on acne-filled skin. I always thought SGD 47 was pretty expensive… until I saw this on Shopee. Definitely putting this onto my wishlist.

Neogen Bio Peel Gauze Peeling

Shopee: SGD 16.90

Soko Glam: USD 27.00 (SGD 37.19)

Savings: SGD 17.29

This brand has been popping up quite often, so I went to search more about it online and I found some really cool facts from Wiki:

  1. The company was founded by Herbert D. “Ted” Doan and James L. Herbert in 1981 as an investment project by Michigan State University.
  2. In 2009, it became a vendor of the Chinese government and has been engaged in researching China-specific food safety and plant health issues.

Anyway it’s not available in SG (I think), so if you want to buy from an ‘official’ site it would probably be Soko Glam… but Shopee beat it with savings of almost SGD 20. Whew.

MIZON Snail Repair Eye Cream

Shopee: SGD 13.40

Peach & Lily: USD 20.00 (SGD 27.55)

Savings: SGD 14.15

I rave quite a bit to my friends about snail mucin being a miracle ingredient, but products made from that are usually on the pricier side. This product is definitely more affordable, but it never hurts to get a bit more savings, right? 😉

Calling for Beauty Bloggers to be interviewed & featured!

Hi everyone!

It’s been some time since I did a guest post, and I thought it would be great if I could interview some beauty bloggers (aka you, that’s right, YOU!) on WordPress.

I know most of us write amazingly detailed reviews, fascinating anecdotes, and the most useful beauty tutorials, but I never really got the time to know each and every one of you personally, and I’m sure readers would love to know more about you – for example, when did you start applying makeup? Do you think skincare is more important, or makeup? I think that not only are these interesting questions to understand you better as a beauty blogger, but also a great avenue to promote your personal identity.

If you would like to be interviewed and featured on THERAGEFFECT, do leave a comment on this post, or drop me an email – I promise to get back to you as soon as I can.

♡, Vivian
