[REVIEW] Lancôme Blanc Expert Liquid Foundation

I bought this last year at a huge discount and was really excited to try this out because I had heard really good reviews of Lancôme’s base products.

Product Description

Ingredient List

I wasn’t able to find the list online (surprisingly) and had already thrown away the box by the time I started writing this, so I won’t be able to talk about this in detail 😦

I was recommended shade O-O2 by the beauty advisor, which I think is suited for people with skin that is not too fair, and has warm undertones.

Packaging: A lot of makeup brands have foundations in similar packaging, but I have to say that this looks absolutely luxurious – perfectly befitting of a luxury brand. It’s actually made of glass, so it feels quite heavy and probably breakable if not handled properly, which is a bit of a problem if you’re planning to bring this on travels. Another point I want to highlight is that it has a pump that is good for controlling the amount of product you need, without making it excessively dirty.

Colour: O-O2 turned out to be a great fit for me – it didn’t come out looking like I slapped paint that was a shade too light or too dark for me. I’m a C21 for Korean brands, so you can use that as a reference. Do take note that this foundation also really helps to brighten up your skin, so you may end up looking a shade lighter than you usually do.

Staying power: This wasn’t promised by the product, and so I didn’t have as much expectations for it to stay on for long hours. Frankly it didn’t either – by the end of a normal work day, most of it would actually have oxidized, and you’ll see that there’s quite a fair bit of oil on your skin left.

Coverage: Another point I didn’t particularly like about this product its lack of coverage, and its ability to emphasize all the tiny bumps and pimples on your skin. It made my skin look even worse, especially when I am suffering from breakouts and clogged pores.

Final Verdict

Technically, this foundation from Lancôme promises to brighten dull skin, and it definitely does its job by making your skin look really bright and shiny. However, as I have come to realize, this exactly isn’t for everyone – or at least, not for me. If you are looking for a foundation that provides maximum coverage, sebum control, and can last you from dawn to dusk, I’m sad to say that this foundation might not fit the bill.

Nonetheless, if you have relatively good skin that needs minimum coverage and a good dose of brightening, this foundation will be better suited to you.

[REVIEW] Lancôme Grandiôse Smudgeproof Mascara

If I had to pick a product that I know terribly well I’ll love, but just never got around to using it, it’d be mascara. I love how it makes eyelashes look luxuriously long, but I always find it such a hassle because I’ve not had the best experience with some drugstore ones.

I got this free, and I had heard many positive reviews about Lancôme’s mascaras, so I finally got around to trying this out.

Product Description

The 1st swan-neck™ mascara is bent to work with the shape of your face for unprecedented access to all lashes. Corner-to-corner, root-to-tip giving the ultimate in length, lift and volume, all without smudging or smearing. Formula is ultra black glossy, quick drying and is the only formula with rose-cell extract so lashes remain soft and supple. Formula contains less waxes for intense color with no smudging or flaking through the day.

Official Retail Price in Singapore: SGD 41 (Shilla Duty Free @ Changi Airport)

Packaging: I love the packaging already – just look at that rose detail, definitely reminiscent of Beauty & The Beast! (In case you are wondering, Lancôme’s logo is a rose, hence the similarity ~)

As you can see from the product shots, this is definitely designed as a luxurious product from a luxury brand.

The swan-neck applicator really does make things easy so that you don’t fumble or lose control as much during application, which is especially helpful when you’re a beginner to mascara (like me).

Effectiveness: It’s very effective as a mascara – my eyelashes definitely look a lot longer after application. However, I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I find that the mascara is quite clumpy and they make my eyelashes lump together a lot more than I would have liked. The end result is that I often look like I have really few eyelashes. It also doesn’t dry fast, which is slightly troublesome and rather disappointing.

All these issues aside, the best thing about this mascara is that it is as smudge-proof as it promises to be. I used to have problems with my mascara smudging onto my lower eyelids/eyebags which left me with little black specks on my eyebags at the end of the day, and I got so frustrated with the problem that I stopped using mascara completely for about one year. This mascara, however, has worked miracles – it indeed hardly budges, and I can have it still stay intact after a full hectic day, which is honestly amazing.

Final Verdict

It sounds like an exaggeration, but it’s highly likely that this product could be a game-changer in my makeup life.

I’ve always associated mascara with terms such as ‘troublesome’, ‘smudge’, ‘clumpy’. Lancôme’s Grandiôse Smudgeproof Mascara hasn’t actually worked in getting me to remove ‘clumpy’ from my mascara dictionary, but I’m definitely impressed by everything else, especially its staying power.

Would I purchase this in future? Hmm. Let’s just say that I’m pretty hesitant about this because of the price – SGD41 is not something I’m prepared to spend on mascara, coupled with the fact that it tends to clump my eyelashes together without drying fast.

[REVIEW] Lancôme L’ Absolu Rouge

My first review of a non K-beauty product goes to Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge! I once read somewhere that Lancôme is one of the top beauty brands that Koreans love to use, together with other names such as YSL and Estee Lauder.

Lancôme L’Absolu is a great example of Koreans’ love for the brand. Kim Go-eun was sported wearing different shades of it in her latest drama Goblin, and as with all successful K-dramas, fans will be scrambling to wipe PPL-products off the shelves. However, it was also reported that this product was already famous before this drama even aired, which says a lot!

How does a poor high school student afford a SGD 46 lipstick? No one knows.

Product description

Envelope your lips in rich, satiny colour with this deeply replenishing lipstick. Infused with moisture-boosting Pro-Xylane™, the formula imparts high-colour payoff without dryness, leaving lips soft, smooth and comfortable for up to eight hours. It’s enriched with antioxidant-rich vitamin E to help keep lips safe from environmental aggressors so that they look and feel healthier day after day. Available in an array of nudes to plums to bright reds—its stay-true colour won’t feather, flake or fade. Lancôme’s Satin Color™ Complex allows for an even deposit of colour upon application.

Official Retail Price in Singapore: SGD 46

The shade I got was 338 (Rose Centifolia), which is a deep, purplish colour. It’s not exactly a shade that would be my first choice, considering my preference for nude and coral colours, but if I had to choose my favourite lipstick formula, this would be the one.

I’ve faced problems with getting my lip product colour to stay on, or dry my lips out – or even BOTH – but L’Absolu really ticks all my boxes for being a fantastic lipstick. If I were in a rush and just need a lipstick to stay on without making me feel dried out, I’d absolutely go for this.

Psst… #187 and #079 look gorgeous

Final Verdict

I would love to get more shades of this lipstick, if it wasn’t for the price, a very personal reason. It’s fully justified for a luxury cosmetic brand, especially considering how good its formula and colour payoff is.

If you’re looking to buy a luxury brand lipstick other than the famed YSL Rouge Pur Couture in No. 52 Rosy Coral (yes, the one that Jeon Ji Hyun sported in You Who Came From The Stars), this is absolutely the one you should be going for, though I can’t guarantee that you’ll look as lovely as Kim Go-eun.
