[REVIEW] L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise

When this product first launched in Singapore last year, I saw all sorts of promotional videos showing how effective this mascara is. So I thought okay, why not give this a shot? After all, Shopee was having a promotion for this at just SGD15 (SGD7 less than original price), and what’s the worst that could happen with a L’Oréal product?

Product Description

Take your lashes to paradise with intense volume and spectacular length.

The soft brush with 200+ bristles holds maximum formula to catch every lash while fanning them out evenly – no clumping! No more stiff, uncomfortable lashes, Lash Paradise gives you feathery-soft full lashes. Smudge-proof and Water-proof.

Official Retail Price in Singapore: SGD 22.90

Ingredient List

ISODODECANE, CERA ALBA/BEESWAX, COPERNICIA CERIFERA CERA/CARNUBA WAX, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, DILINOLEIC ACID/BUTANEDIOL COPOLYMER, AQUA/WATER, ALLYL STEARATE/VA COPOLYMER, ORYZA SATIVA CERA/RICE BRAN WAX, PARAFFIN, ALCOHOL DENAT, POLYVINYL LAURATE, VP/EICOSENE COPOLYMER, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, TALC, SYNTHETIC BEESWAX, ETHYLENEDIAMINE/STEARYL DIMER DILINOLEATE COPOLYMER, PEG-30 GLYCERYL STEARATE, CANDELILLA CERA/CANDELILLA WAX, PANTHENOL, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRA-DI-T-BUTYL HYDROXYHYDROCINNAMATE, BHT

This product appears to use quite a fair amount of wax, which I assume is to hold the lashes in place (hence it claims to be waterproof).

Denatured Alcohol is a cause for concern if you see it in your skincare because it can cause dryness, irritation and breakouts. Again, I think it is useful in a formula that should be waterproof and long-lasting. Fortunately it’s not going on your skin, but be careful if it does!

Packaging: Simple, but millennial pink is really all it takes to make this a beautiful product that you want to keep in your purse.

After applying L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise
Left: before. Right: after

Effectiveness: The photos say them all. I am so, so impressed by a mascara that really adds length and volume, exactly the same way it’s shown in its promotional images. I would say I’m blessed with quite voluminous (and rather long) eyelashes to begin with, but this mascara really enhances my lashes so well!

Staying power: This is really very waterproof and long-lasting: I’ve worn this in the rain, more than 12 hours, under the hot sun, and braved cold wintery winds, and nothing has made this mascara budge, other than a good makeup remover. You can definitely count on this for the days that you know you’ll be sweating profusely, and don’t have to worry about your mascara running down even when you’re drenched head to toe in the rain.

Final Verdict

Sometimes I feel that I get less impressed with beauty products because I’ve seen so many and become desensitised, but this is truly, truly groundbreaking. I don’t know why this took so long to come to Singapore, because this is one mascara that really delivers as promised. No clumping, no running, and the most beautiful lashes that you could ever ask for.

The best part is, it’s selling at drugstore prices, so you don’t have to burn a hole in your wallet! This is definitely a good dupe for the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, so go buy this if you are looking for something good and affordable!

[REVIEW] L’Oréal Paris Hydrafresh Genius Water

To me, L’Oréal Paris products are a staple in many mothers’ makeup counters, and that was exactly where I first saw this product. I was later also given a sample of this (which I have photographed for the purpose of this post), which I have found to work in the same way and with the same efficacy as the full-sized product.

Product Description

Immediately, skin feels smooth and looks radiant. With 3X hydration efficacy of moisturizing, nourishing, and lock-in power, Genius Water hydrates skin intensively day after day, leaving skin soft and dewy.

Official Retail Price in Singapore: SGD 22.90

Ingredient List

899085 41, AQUA / WATER, GLYCERIN, ALCOHOL, DIPHENYLSILOXY PHENYL TRIMETHICONE, CALCIUM CHLORIDE, SODIUM HYALURONATE, VITIS VINIFERA SEED OIL / GRAPE SEED OIL, GELLAN GUM, TRIMETHYL PENTAPHENYL TRISILOXANE, MANNOSE, XANTHAN GUM, ETHYLCELLULOSE, TOCOPHEROL, PHENOXYETHANOL, CHLORPHENESIN, LINALOOL, LIMONENE, HEXYL CINNAMAL, PARFUM / FRAGRANCE, B172110/1

I’m not sure what 899085 is actually referring to because Google doesn’t really throw up anything useful about it, but I am a bit concerned that alcohol is ranked so high on the list as it is a potential irritant.

Alcohol aside, there are a few ingredients in this list that are worth highlighting for the right reasons. Glycerin is an ingredient reported to lock in moisture, and is something you should look for in your moisturizers.

Packaging: I always believe that product packaging speaks volumes about the product and the brand, so I’m always inclined to buy skincare products that look professional and reflect either a) ingredients used or b) product type. Blue is always a great colour to use in moisturizers, and I also like how it is translucent because it gives the idea of being lightweight and easy to absorb.

Texture: I’m very particular about this when it comes to skincare products because my skin absolutely hates anything thicker than liquid foundations (it currently cannot even take BB creams). However, I have to say that this moisturizer has one of the best textures out of all the ones I have tried before. It is actually so aqueous that you’ll be forgiven for thinking that it is just normal water! (Maybe that’s why they name it ‘Hydrafresh Genius Water’?)

It is so light and easy to absorb that my skin literally soaked up everything in seconds. My pores never feel clogged, and have never shown signs of clogging or acne arising from using this, which is a miracle because a lot of skincare products have really not been great for my skin.

Effectiveness: This product’s main selling point is strengthening skin barrier to prevent moisture loss, while also providing instant hydration. I have to say that it really does as advertised – I made sure to apply this everyday as part of my morning routine so that my skin remains hydrated even in dry air-conditioned spaces.

Final Verdict

This moisturizer works almost as well as my favourite belif one, but at just a fraction of the price – if that’s not enough to convince you to buy it, I don’t know what will.

Although I’m always very eager and keen to try new products, I know that this product is one of those that I can always fall back on when I’m tired of torturing my skin with all kinds of new and weird stuff. I believe that this will be great for you too, regardless of skin type, so do give this a try the next time you visit your local drugstore!
