[REVIEW] La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo +

This is one of those products that I’ve heard a lot about it being ‘holy grail’ for many people, how it’s great for getting rid of those nasty zits on your face. I’ve always been struggling with pimples, so I wanted to see if this would be as effective as people claimed.

Packaging: The product comes in a tube that is easy for you to squeeze an appropriate amount out. There’s nothing too fancy about La Roche-Posay’s packaging, which I appreciate because I prefer my skincare products to look more ‘professional’, if you get what I mean.

Texture: The Effaclar Duo + is very watery and lightweight, a bit like a gel. It gets absorbed easily by the skin so it doesn’t stay on the surface and leave your face feeling sticky and oily, which could further aggravate your acne.

Effectiveness: I used this as a spot treatment, so I applied it on areas where I see pimples, as well as potential acne scarring from previous breakouts. To my disappointment, I didn’t see really see my situation improving, as all the reviews had promised. In fact, I even faced a minor breakout!

I don’t know if I’m allergic to something in the formula, because my skin is quite sensitive and does not react very well to irritants, including fragrances. If you read reviews of this product online, you will realize that a minority of consumers face a similar situation, despite 90% of the rest saying that this product worked wonders for them. I’m guessing it’s also got to do with skin irritation, caused by certain ingredient(s).

Final Verdict

For a drugstore product that is rather pricey, I really wished this had worked better for me. I wasn’t able to test this before I bought it, so I urge you to test this out at the stores and make sure you don’t have any allergic reaction before you actually purchase this.

If you are looking for spot treatments and have sensitive skin, I advise to just give La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Duo + a miss. This is to avoid potential complications, as the product does not guarantee that it is good for even the most sensitive skin.

[REPOST] How the Location of Acne on Your Face Could Explain Why You Break Out — Top Health Fix

I caught this interesting blog post on my WordPress Reader, and thought that this was actually quite accurate. I constantly have acne between my eyebrows and on my cheeks, and do suffer from a poor diet and allergies (to dirt), as identified to be the cause.

If you’re interested to find out more, check out the article below!

Acne is the most common skin condition in the U.S. and other nations of the world. It affects up to 50 million Americans annually, as per information from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). [REVIEW] Oxy Acne Control Moisturizer

When I was younger, the one skincare product that I used religiously (besides cleansing foam) was oxy 5. It is a fantastic product that really dries your zits down so that they’re gone by the next day, but it started getting a little too drying for my sensitive skin, so I stopped using it and turned to other alternatives, like pimple patches.

However, I’ve never forgotten how effective Oxy products are, so I got pretty excited when I saw this moisturizer from Oxy that claimed to help control acne.

Product Description

Acne Prone Skin prevent Blemishes. Contains AC Net to help control excess oil and prevent blemishes. Moisturizing with Sodium Hyaluronate and Aloe Extract to deeply moisturize skin. Oil free formulation for light, non-greasy feel. Pore Refining with Witch Hazel Extract to refine pores for visibly smooth skin. SPF15PA+. Protects skin against UVA and UVB.

Ingredient List

Water, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butylene Glycol, Water/Butylene Glycol/PEG-60 Almond Glycerides/Caprylyl Glycol/Glycerin/Carbomer/Nordihydrogualaretic Acid/Oleanolic Acid, Silica, Cyclopentasiloxane, Polysorbate 60, Bis-EThylhexyloxyphenol, Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Methylparaben, Triethanolamine, Allantoin, Water/Butylene Glycol/Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Water/Propylene Glycol/Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Propylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Flavor (Flavor-Green Leaf), Sodium Hyaluronate

Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate is used to protect your skin from UV rays (hence SPF 15). However, I am a little concerned that it contains a ratehr high concentration of Butylene Glycol, which I mentioned previously, is actually a human irritant and can be bad for people with extremely sensitive skin.

Packaging: The packaging is very hygienic and convenient. You can pump out a suitable amount of product without making a mess that is common with other types of packaging that needs you to squeeze or scoop out the product.

Texture: It feels like a cross between gel and cream, so it’s not too oily nor too watery. It is easily spread out on skin (see last photo), and absorbed quickly as well with no white residue, so you can definitely use this in your morning routine before applying makeup.

Effectiveness: I have pretty mixed feelings about this product’s efficacy.

I do think that with regards to hydration and moisturizing, it works pretty well because my skin doesn’t show any signs of dryness or dehydration after I apply this, even if I am in a dry, air-conditioned place for hours.

On the other hand, I don’t think it has helped with fighting pimples and controlling oil. In fact, I saw an increase in pimples occasionally when I am using this, so I’m really not convinced that it works…

Final Verdict

I am quite disappointed that this Oxy product has not worked well for me at all. I did expect that it would heal my pimples and stop new ones from growing out, but the opposite has happened (more than once).

Maybe my expectations of this were too high, but I do say that this is good for people who are looking to find a lightweight moisturizer and have no particular acne/pimple/sensitive skin issues. If you are looking to buy this in order to clear your pimples, you may end up pretty disappointed.
