Beauty Blogger Interview: Ashlynne Kaliher

Thanks for taking on this interview! Let’s start off with a self introduction.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much, Vivian, for this awesome opportunity. I think this is such a fun idea! I have been obsessed with makeup for about 5 years now, and I’ve loved skincare for about 2 years. I’m 21-years-old with combo/oily skin. I love finding new products that work for me. Beauty is such a passion of mine, and so is writing. I’m a senior in college and I’m hoping to do something with criminal psychology!

When did you first start blogging about beauty?

I started my blog this past May, so I’ve been blogging for almost 4 months now! Starting my beauty blog was definitely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve loved everything beauty-related for so long and it was time to share my thoughts and opinions out in the beauty community! I also love writing and have ever since I was little, so it’s amazing being able to combine my two passions in one. It makes me so happy to pick up a new makeup product or find a skincare product that makes my skin feel good. I will always love makeup and skincare.

Could you share your first experience with makeup?

My first experience with makeup was when I was in 6th grade I think. I remember seeing girls at school wearing makeup so I desperately wanted to try it, too. I begged my mom to let me try eyeliner, so I went to the store with her and picked up a blue CoverGirl eyeliner…lol. I didn’t even wear it properly; I put it under my bottom lashes, so it looked like I had raccoon eyes but blue instead of black. It was really bad. After that, I started wearing Revlon ColorStay foundation and some powder. Thankfully, my makeup progressed a little bit and I wasn’t looking like a clown anymore.

What are some of your favourite brands?

I recently went cruelty-free, which I’m very excited about. I’ve always loved the brands Anastasia Beverly Hills, Too Faced, Becca, and Sol de Janeiro. I also am loving Farmacy, Go-To, Indie Lee, and Drunk Elephant. Anastasia Beverly Hills and Sol de Janeiro have to be my all-time favorite brands, though. I have so many amazing products from them! The Modern Renaissance Palette, Soft Glam, the brow powder duo, clear brow gel, Amrezy highlighter, etc. from ABH, and the incredible Bum Bum Cream, Body Mist, Lip Butter, Body Scrub, etc. from Sol de Janeiro!

Choose one: skincare or makeup?

This is a really tough one…in the past, I’d easily choose makeup. However, I’m so into skincare now because I know that makeup will only look as good as your base does (your bare face). If you take care of your skin and have a good skincare routine, your makeup will look amazing. But, I also enjoy wearing no makeup, and I feel more confident doing so with clear skin. So I’ll have to say I’d choose skincare!

Name one product that you would repurchase for the rest of your life.

This is another hard one to answer! Hmmm…I’d probably have to say either the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm or the Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Sunshine Serum. Green clean is 100% necessary for me on the days I wear makeup; it’s the best way to get all the makeup off my face to prepare for my second cleanse. But, I’m obsessed with D-Bronzi because it gives you an automatic, sun-kissed glow. Hard choice…but I think I’d pick D-Bronzi.

What is one piece of advice you would give to readers who are just starting out in their skincare or makeup journey?

I would suggest starting out small and not buying every product you see. Everyone’s skin is different, so just because a beauty guru you watch loved a certain 5 products, that doesn’t always mean those will work the same for you. I recommend doing your research first, for sure! From there, see what you think you’d like best that will fit your budget, and try some things out! You aren’t going to have an entire beauty room full of products right off the bat, so just take it slow and have fun! Also, when it comes to skincare specifically, less is MORE. From what I’ve found, my skin reacts the best when I have a simple routine with minimal products, rather than a super long routine with 8 products.

I hope you all enjoyed learning a bit more about me! Thank you again, Vivian, for this great opportunity. Thanks for reading!

Xoxo,

Ash

Beauty Blogger Interview: Beauty Beyond Twenty

Thanks for taking on this interview! Let’s start off with a self introduction.

Hello everyone! I’d like to first thank Vivian for this opportunity, and I hope that I can learn more about everyone else too! I’m Layna (a Singaporean) and I blog over at beautybeyondtwenty.com!

I’m almost reaching my mid-20s (oily T-zone, normal U-zone), so I started researching more about skincare and makeup that suits my skin. I love K-beauty products and basically Korean dramas and songs in general. I’ve also recently graduated from University and had a graduation trip to Japan and Korea too, which I thoroughly enjoyed!

When did you first start blogging about beauty?

I started blogging at the end of May 2018. That’s really recent, isn’t it? I contemplated on starting this since 3 years ago and I finally gathered the courage to start my beauty and lifestyle blog, albeit anonymously. And I’m enjoying every single step of it!

Could you share your first experience with makeup?

My first experience with makeup was probably when I was 17? My skin started getting bad and all I thought of was to find a high coverage foundation to hide all those flaws of mine, It gave me a sense of relief whenever I had my Revlon Colorstay Foundation on my face, but once it was removed, I felt ugly. I didn’t have much basic knowledge of the most basic foundation – skincare, which was probably why it wasn’t a very positive experience for me.

Now I know my skin so much better, I make sure that the makeup and skincare I use is better suited for my skin!

What are some of your favourite brands?

I don’t really have a favourite because not every product of a brand suits me but if I’d have to choose from my favourites in my stash, it’d be CNP Laboratory, Innisfree, Pyunkang Yul, Peripera and Nature Republic (skincare/makeup).

Choose one: skincare or makeup?

I have to say that, in the past, it was makeup for me. It was the only thing that ‘protected’ me and helped me bring out a little confidence.

Now it’s skincare, skincare, skincare! Ever since I took Accutane (or Roaccutane), I realised I had to change something about my skincare routine as well. From then on, I took much better care of my skin and although, it’s not yet the best form, I’m working it out slowly.

Check out my Accutane Journey & Tips!

Name one product that you would repurchase for the rest of your life.

Ah this is a tough one! I’d say The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% because it helped so much with my acne hyperpigmentation and scars.

I recently did a review on this showing my before and after photo:

Review | The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

What is one piece of advice you would give to readers who are just starting out in their skincare or makeup journey?

Start simple! When I got serious in my skincare journey, I used one product. An alcohol-free toner as my skincare. Since I didn’t use a moisturiser, I layered the toner. I slowly added steps that I needed, such as exfoliation or extra moisture. I didn’t do more than necessary. My skin behaved really well and was so smooth.

If you’re interested, I was using this particular toner – Review | TonyMoly Black Tea London Classic Toner

Similarly to makeup, don’t go and get everything that can be applied on your face unless you know what you prefer. Eyeliners didn’t suit my eyes well because one side is more hooded than the other, so I only made use of my brow pencil to do the ends! I don’t do much eye makeup as well, so I didn’t get many eye palettes.

These questions were very interesting and fun and I hope you got to know me much better! 🙂

Calling for Beauty Bloggers to be interviewed & featured!

Hi everyone!

It’s been some time since I did a guest post, and I thought it would be great if I could interview some beauty bloggers (aka you, that’s right, YOU!) on WordPress.

I know most of us write amazingly detailed reviews, fascinating anecdotes, and the most useful beauty tutorials, but I never really got the time to know each and every one of you personally, and I’m sure readers would love to know more about you – for example, when did you start applying makeup? Do you think skincare is more important, or makeup? I think that not only are these interesting questions to understand you better as a beauty blogger, but also a great avenue to promote your personal identity.

If you would like to be interviewed and featured on THERAGEFFECT, do leave a comment on this post, or drop me an email – I promise to get back to you as soon as I can.

♡, Vivian
