This was originally written for Daily Vanity, and I have published an excerpt of the article on THERAGEFFECT. Do check out the full article on DV here!

Lip tints are definitely one of the best lip products you can ever get, and they’ve definitely become an essential in any beauty lovers’ makeup collection. Long-lasting colour, shiny gloss, and comfortable application – what’s there not to love about lip tints?

New to lip tints and not sure what’s hot? Check out our recommendations of the best lip tints that you should add to your makeup pouch right now!

1. A’PIEU WATER LIGHT TINT

Infused with floral and fruit extracts to keep your lips moist and nourished, this tint adheres smoothly so that a nice colour stays on throughout the day. Shade RD03, in particular, has been frequently touted by beauty bloggers as a perfect dupe for Yves Saint Laurent’s Vinyl Cream Lip Stain #407, so you know that this product is definitely worth trying!

A’PIEU Water Light Tint retails on online e-commerce platforms such as Shopee and Qoo10 at around SGD10.

2. BENEFIT BENETINT CHEEK & LIP STAIN

Benefit’s rose-tinted lip tint is a holy grail for many beauty lovers, thanks to its kiss-proof and smudge-proof formula. You can easily blend it with your fingers, and it has a buildable texture so that you can have your lips (and cheeks) looking gorgeous with a radiant flush.

Benefit Benetint Cheek & Lip Stain retails in all Sephora stores and Sephora.sg at SGD21.

3. ETUDE HOUSE DEAR DARLING WATER GEL LIP TINT

Lip Tint Etude House

If you’re looking to create a gradient lip, you’d definitely want to buy this lip tint from Etude House. This super-pigmented tint is touted as a long-time favourite among Korean women. To add to its accolades, the Dear Darling Water Gel Lip Tint was awarded the 2017 Soko Glam Best of K-beauty Award winner.

In a K-Beauty world dominated by lip tints, to be recognized as one of the best tints in the market is truly an amazing feat. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s one of the most affordable lip tints on this list. Who says good quality must come with an expensive price tag?

Etude House Dear Darling Water Gel Lip Tint retails in all Etude House stores and Lazada at SGD8.90.

4. YSL BEAUTY ROUGE PUR COUTURE VERNIS A LEVRES

Lip Tint Ysl

YSL Beauty Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levres combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long-wear of a stain for a unique lip product. Boasting a lightweight texture that immediately melts onto lips and does not feel sticky at all, you’ll be sure to have perfect, glossy lips no matter how many snacks you munch on.

YSL Beauty Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levres retails in all YSL stores and Tangs at SGD52.

5. PERIPERA INK THE AIRY VELVET

Lip Tint Peripera

Peripera has been established as one of the best lip tint brands since their gamechanging watery lip tint released many years ago. They’ve since released a range of tints in glossy and matte formulas in a variety of MLBB (my lips but better) shades.

Ink The Airy Velvet is one of Peripera’s latest additions to their tint products – a cream lip stain with a matte-like finish that is so lightweight, it applies and wears like air. It also contains cotton seed oil, green tea seed oil, and mango seed oil to keep your lips comfortably hydrated and perfectly tinted throughout the day.

Peripera Ink the Airy Velvet retails on online e-commerce platforms such as Shopee and Lazada at around SGD8 to 10.

[REVIEW] Peripera Ink the Airy Velvet

This review is waaay overdue – I bought my first Peripera Ink the Airy Velvet last year in Korea and liked it so much that I bought two more from the same series. You might have heard about how good this product is and its value for money. It sounds exaggerated, and I was initially quite doubtful about the hype, but now I have seen the light (HAHA), and I hope that my review does justice to this amazing product.

Product Description

  • This lip tint glides on smoothly, offering vivid color and a soft, velvety texture to your lips.
  • The enriched formula keeps your lips moist and glossy without feeling sticky.

Ingredient List

Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Cyclohexasiloxane, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cyclotetrasiloxane, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, Green Tea Seed Oil, Cotton Seed Oil, Mango Seed Oil, Lithol Rubine BCA, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Tetrachlorotetrabromofluorescein, Titanium Dioxide, Ferric Oxide, Phloxine B, Hydrated Ferric Oxide, Sunset Yellow FCF, Tartrazine, Black Oxide of Iron

These are the ‘main ingredients’ found in each product regardless of the colours. For the longest time, I suspected that the formula for Peripera’s Ink the Airy Velvet (Or Airy Ink Velvet, whichever floats your boat) was exactly the same as moonshot’s Cream Paint Lightfit. A quick check of moonshot’s ingredients shows similarities, though I think that Peripera’s one contains more seed oils, while moonshot’s has more…wax? Which would explain the slight difference in texture between the two.

I intentionally picked 3 shades for different ‘moods’ and occasions – a bright coral, a brick red, and a MLBB shade.

Packaging: I find the packaging really adorable. It reminds me of a dropper, although it doesn’t really function that way (real pity about this!). It’s actually a pretty small tube, which would explain its really low price point, but I personally really like this because it’s easy to bring around for touchups or for travel, and I don’t have to fret about not being able to finish them before they expire.

Colour: I bought three shades – #2, #7, and #10. My personal favourite is #7, because these days I gravitate towards brick red shades that are great for daily use, yet very empowering (if you know what I mean). #2 is a tad too bright for me if I apply a full colour, but looks very good when used as a gradient lip. #10 is a bit of a pity because I thought it would look great, but it’s more cool-toned than I thought, and cool tones generally don’t work well with my skin. Oh well 😦

Colour payoff & intensity: This is arguably one of the most pigmented lip creams/tints I’ve gotten from a K-beauty brand. I love the pigment, love the colour intensity, love the payoff. There’s nothing I can find fault with this because it’s truly so good. I feel like I’m getting my money’s worth when one smooth swipe is all I need to complete my lip look. It does make it a bit harder to do a gradient lip look with this, but I really appreciate the full, even colour application that Ink the Airy Velvet provides.

Staying power: Peripera is famous for its lip tints, so you can expect that all their lip products have some degree of staying power. This is one of the most lasting lip products I have used, and I am seriously impressed by how long it lasts. I could apply this for a normal work day, have lunch and eat snacks over 9 hours, and still have at least 80% of the colour left on my lips with no patchiness, no stickiness, and no dryness by the end of the day. How is this possible?? What sorcery has Peripera been working with these products?? Why aren’t the other companies producing magical products like these as well??

Final Verdict

Some people have called this their holy grail, and I assure you that they are NOT exaggerating about how fantastic this is. In fact, it is also one of my holly grail lip products because it is just so good.

Firstly, the price point is already enticing enough. Less than $10 for a vivid, long-lasting lip cream – now who wouldn’t want that? It also doesn’t help that they have an impressive range of colours for any preference and any mood, so you have an excuse to buy more than one without breaking the bank.

I highly recommend shade #7 (My Brown Coral) for those who love a good brick red (one of the most popular K-beauty trends to come). You’ll definitely love how sophisticated and elegant you can look with just a small tube of lip paint.

[REVIEW] Sephora Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick

I’ve been wanting to try Sephora’s products for a long time, and when I finally went to swatch their lip stain liquid lipsticks in a JB branch, I was so impressed by the colours and staying power that I made a note to buy the exact same shade in Singapore.

Product Description

This must-have lip stain comes in bold colours and gives a matte finish that lasts for hours. Rediscover the Made In Sephora no-transfer Cream Lip Stain with its high-coverage formula and ultra-velvety texture. Infused with avocado oil, this lip stain delivers ultimate comfort, and it’s so easy to apply with its precision applicator that distributes just the right amount of Cream Lip Stain.

Ingredient List

Isododecane, Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Polybutene, Petrolatum, Cyclohexasiloxane, Kaolin, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Aroma (Flavor), Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Propylene Carbonate, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Tocopherol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Benzyl Alcohol. May or may not contain (+/-): Mica, CI 15850 (Red 7 Lake), CI 19140 (Yellow 5 Lake), CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491 (Iron Oxides), CI 77492 (Iron Oxides), CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 15850 (Red 6), CI 42090 (Blue 1 Lake), CI 75470 (Carmine)

The first ingredient here that caught my eye was the avocado oil – I guess they were serious about it! A quick check online showed that avocado oil is good for your skin and reduces inflammation & itching, so this might be good news for those with sensitive skin. Also noteworthy is the beeswax, which is great for moisturizing your lips so that the matte finish doesn’t dry your lips out. The rest are pretty common (& relatively safe) ingredients found in cosmetic products.

I’m always attracted by MLBB shades, so I swatched a few and decided to get just one: #05 Infinite Rose. It’s described as a ‘satin golden peach’, which honestly sounds very delicious.

I’m not sure why I picked a shimmery shade, since I’m more of a block-colour person, but I really liked this shade! If you’re not keen on glittery ones, a close match would be Pink Tea or Nude Blush.

Packaging: Reminds me of KVD and Kylie lip kits. Very simple and straightforward, very easy to bring around.

Colour: I sometimes struggle with liquid lipsticks because they can get a little patchy, which makes the colour look bad, but this is great! If you see the swatch, the colour is very even. I think it resembles rose gold more than peach, and is very wearable in many occasions. You can wear it on its own for a sweet look, or apply on top of a darker shade to enhance it with the shimmer.

Colour payoff & intensity: It’s a little sheer, but it doesn’t mean that the payoff is bad. If it were any more intense, I think this could pass for a glitter lipstick instead. You can use just one swipe for sufficient colour, or another layer to enhance the pink colour.

Staying power: The combination of ‘lip stain + liquid lipstick’ is enough to raise expectations that this should be long-lasting – and it is! If I know that I’m not gonna have much time to reapply lipstick throughout the day, or if I’m just feeling lazy, I’d definitely consider using this. The transfer is minimal, and you should still have stains left on your lips at the end of the day when you remove your makeup.

Final Verdict

How did I take so long to finally get this lipstick from Sephora? Why did I not buy more shades??

A few gripes about this product would be that it still feels a little too drying for me if I don’t put lip balm beforehand, despite containing ingredients that should help to prevent this. Another is the price point – I feel that $19 is still a bit expensive for a relatively small tube (5ML), but considering that all it takes is a small amount at the beginning of the day to obtain good lips all day, it’s probable that you can stretch this $19 for pretty long.

I’d highly recommend this if you’re not too particular about the price point, or would love to try out many colours. Their shade range for this product is honestly overwhelming – and it definitely tempts consumers to get a few more than necessary.
