[REVIEW] 3CE Velvet Lip Tint

So after my first experience with a 3CE lip product, I decided to try out their lip tints, which I reckon are very popular among beauty junkies.

Product Description

What it is:

A lip tint with a sherbet-like texture that melts into the lips and leaves a natural tinge with a matte finish.

What it does:

Velvet lip tint incorporates an oil-packed formula specially made to deliver a vivid and velvety matte texture. When this tint is applied, the lips are first encased with a layer of oil upon which pigments gently melt, resulting in a dewy sensation with a matte finish.

Official Retail Price in Singapore: SGD 23

Ingredient List

See the full list here, together with information on safety and irritants.

Packaging: It looks very similar to my other lip tints (in particular, the CLIO one), so nothing much in particular that is really mind-blowing. I do find the 3CE tube to be much thicker than the CLIO one – probably because it contains more product as well.

Colour: I bought the shade #GOING RIGHT, which appears to be a very gorgeous MLBB shade. However, the real swatch shows that this shade contains a little more tinge of orange than I had expected. I personally also feel that it leans more towards a terracotta red – it’s great for me, because as of late I’ve been collecting lipstick shades like this, but you may want to take note of this if you are very particular about getting a colour that’s identical to the marketing photo.

The colour payoff is, of course, very good for a matte lip tint. It’s definitely better than the Mood Recipe Matte Lip Color. The texture is waxy and applies evenly on the lips, which I really like as well.

Staying power: I wasn’t super impressed by the Mood Recipe Matte Lip Color’s staying power, but I feel that this holds up better than its bullet lipstick counterpart.

You still get a fair bit of tint left even after an oily meal, although it’s not quite as long-lasting as you would expect from matte lipsticks. However, I’ve come to terms that 3CE lipsticks are not the best when it comes to long-lasting lipsticks that don’t budge.

Final Verdict

As beautiful as 3CE’s Instagram photos are, I sometimes still feel that the brand is a little overhyped for its quality and price. There are certainly other brands can offer the same type of product at a lower price, and probably with better staying power as well.

That being said, I still do enjoy using this lip tint from 3CE. It’s not bad, just that I wouldn’t strongly recommend that you buy it, because I don’t think it really offers anything that’s different or better than other brands.

[REVIEW] Etude House Soft Drink Tint

In another episode of ‘Etude House killin’ it with the cute packaging’, I’m here to review one of their cutest lip products – the soft drink tint.

Product Description

Soft Drink Tint colors make the lips look refreshing like a burst of soda.

Ingredient List

#RD301 Zero Red :
Polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, red No. 202, polyacrylate crosspolymer-6, ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate / vpicopolymer, steviosolate, glycerin, glycerin, butyleneglycol, polysorbate 20, polyglyceryl- (1), T-butyl alcohol, star anise extract (1) of red No. 104, phenoxyethanol, yellow No. 5, fragrance, capryliliglycol, 1,2-hexanediol, ethylhexylglycerin, propanediol

T-butyl alcohol: colourless oily liquid with a sharp alcohol odour, it is found in ginger
Propanediol: viscous, colorless liquid which is nearly odorless but possesses a faintly sweet taste

Is anyone surprised that you can’t find water in this list? I personally am, because most lip tints tend to contain a high percentage of water. 🤔

Packaging: This is so, so cute. It totally resembles a soft drink bottle, so much so that you may be tempted to drink straight from it (please don’t). I like that it’s small and convenient to carry around, and also closes rather tightly so you don’t have to worry about leakages.

Colour: I find that the shade range is rather limited with just 5 basic colours, but I guess it is sufficient enough to cover most people’s preferences of red, orange, pink, purple, and clear.

The old me would definitely have chosen pink, but these days I’m gravitating towards reds (a sign of maturity/old age? idk), so I picked RD301. It is quite a bright red that’s great for people with warm undertones, but may tend to make your teeth look more yellow. It’s the kind of red that you’ll see many Korean girls sporting (please don’t ask me why, I have no idea), but again I don’t think this is a ‘universal’ kind of red, so use with caution! I think it may have been a little too bright for me because I prefer something darker, like brick red, but I can work around this by creating gradient lips so it looks more subtle.

For those who like a more muted colour, I definitely suggest picking BL601 to bring out your natural lip colour.

Staying power: If you see the last photo, that’s the stain it leaves behind after I tried my best to wipe off all the product. Of course, it’s not super intense, but I think it is a beautiful tint that will still help you to look made-up, rather than give away the fact that you just finished your lunch. I also have to give it props for leaving such an even stain – some products leave your lips all flakey and unevenly coloured, which looks super bad, but this tint from Etude House doesn’t do that.

Final Verdict

I used to be very biased against Etude House’s lip products due to one poor experience I had, but these days I’m really changing opinion, thanks to all these new lippies that are proving to be value for money.

In Korea, you’ll see a lot of young girls (secondary school/high school) going to Etude House to buy cosmetics, because they are cheaper and relatively easier to use for beginners. I have to admit though, the brand is very affordable, very accessible, and really produces items that are good to use. It’s like drugstore price, but at a much higher quality than you expect.

If you love a good, long-lasting lip tint, or are a total beginner when it comes to cosmetics, do get this! I promise you won’t regret it 🙂

[REVIEW] Memebox I’m Meme Tic Toc Tint Lip Cashmere

I wasn’t a very big fan of the brand after a huge chunk of my matte lip crayon broke off, but I decided to give this another try because… well because they got Hwang Minghyun (Wanna One & NUEST) to front this, and I wanted to show some support 😂

Product Description

1. A tint that is moisturizing like a lip balm with a soft matte finish. A velvet-like textured tint that applies with a matte finish and keep the inner lips moisturized and smooth on the outside.

2. Soft cushion tip gives a touch of color and builds for more impact. Rich and high-pigmented moist formula gently and continuously wraps your lips without dryness or flakiness.

3. Natural-looking color. Various colors ranging from orange to red that instantly makes your lips look vibrant with a light finish in a single sweep.

Packaging: I quite like this new packaging style, it’s better than the one they had for the matte lip crayon. However, I have to say that it takes really long to click that button at the end for the product to come out when you first use it. It’s definitely a true test of your patience. The good thing is that subsequently, it gets easier: one or two clicks will be sufficient for the product to appear on the sponge.

Colour: I like to pick colours that are labelled as best picks by the brand ambassadors – I mean, they have to be good if the brand is pushing them so fiercely, right? So I picked 007 My Kinda Coral, and this is how it looks like on Minhyun:

I know it’s called ‘coral’, but I think it leans closer to a terracotta/brown-red shade. It’s super suitable for fall. In fact, it is a colour that will probably stay in trend for very long because these shades are so flattering, especially for Asian skin tones. I feel like I’ve weaned off my pinks & reds, so now all my new lippies sport a similar shade, but you can never have enough of your favourite colour, right?

I do think that this colour is also very similar to that of THEFACESHOP’s finger cotton tint‘s Brown-presso, but a tad more brown.

Colour payoff & intensity: I like how it’s not too intense a colour – make it sheer on the outer parts of the lip, and apply a few more layers on the inside to easily create a gradient lip look. You can also just apply a thin layer to get a natural-looking colour, or swipe a few more times for a full look. Either way, it will still look great!

Staying power: Based on experience, it does stay put through a meal, but don’t expect a full-blown colour. There will just be hints of colour, but enough to make your lips look great.

Also props to the comfortable formula: I expected this to be quite drying and uncomfortable after a while because it dries down to a matte finish, but it was so lightweight that I didn’t feel like I was even wearing lipstick at all!

Final Verdict

I’m definitely giving this brand another go, now that this lip tint has changed my opinion. The colour range is very good (all them MLBB shades!), so I’m definitely going to put the other shades on my shopping list.

The only problem is that these can be rather pricey in Singapore. I know, it’s less than SGD20 (standard price for many lip products these days), but it cost me less when I bought it in Seoul. Ah well, it’s just a price benchmark that you can ignore if you really want to try this out, and I highly encourage that you do, because a good lippie is worth it!

[REVIEW] Etude House Dear Darling Water Gel Tint

This isn’t a new product, but it sure is one that has been raved about by many bloggers and fans. I eventually couldn’t resist finding out for myself whether the hype over this project is justified, so I bought this in Korea and tried it back home in Singapore.

Product Description

The moisture tint expresses sweet color like ice cream as it refreshingly melts into the lips.

Ingredient List

Water, Glyceryl Polymethacrylate, Glycerin, Propanediol, Trehalose, Pentylene Glycol, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Polysorbate 20, Tromethamine, Polyacrylate-13, Titanium Dioxide, Polyisobutene, CI 15985, Fragrance, Dehydroacetic Acid, Sapindus Trifoliatus Fruit Extract, CI 17200, Silica, Alumina

It is little wonder that a ‘watery gel tint’ has a formula that, well, has water in the highest proportion. Some other good ingredients:

Glycerin: good for dry skin
Polysorbate 20: good for fungal acne
Titanium Dioxide: UV protection, good for sensitive skin

Packaging: I’ve hardly seen an Etude House product that doesn’t deliver in terms of packaging. This one is adorably shaped like a popsicle, which I guess does a good job in delivering the idea of lips stained by the sweet syrup from popsicles. It’s relatively small, so it is also easy to carry around.

Colour: While the shade range is not the largest we have seen from lip tints, I think it is sufficient enough to cover most preferences, with pinks, reds, and oranges/apricots. The colour I picked, RD307, looks very red from the bottle alone, but in reality is a lighter shade of red that closely resembles watermelon juice.

Staying power: Do you want to know how insane this staying power is? After I swatched the product to take the photographs above, I found out that the pinkish stain is still visible the next day – now, how amazing is that?!

I’ve found that this lip tint is so long-lasting that you really don’t need to touch up at all even after oily meals. In fact, you could probably even last a whole day with just a few swipes in the morning before heading out – super convenient!

In addition, I really like that this lip tint actually helps your lips feel moisturized, instead of sucking the moisture away from the lips (this could happen to you too, so remember to always put lip balm!) and making it more dry than before.

Final Verdict

After just my first use, I now understood why this Etude House lippie is such a major hit around the world. It is very rare to find a lip tint that not only does not dry your lips, but faithfully keeps the colour intact even when you are eating the oiliest food in the whole world.

I also think this makes for a very good ‘starter product’, for people who are just starting out on makeup. It’s easy to apply, lasts long, and generally completes your look effortlessly.

Naturally, I hope to be able to get the other beautiful shades as well in the future – wish me & my wallet luck!

[REVIEW] Lily by Red Bloody Liar Coating Tint

This brand caught my attention because… well, because their ambassador is Hyunbin from PD101😅 I think I first saw this on Instagram, and got really interested in their lip products because the colours looked so vibrant and fresh, so I made a mental note to pick them up in Korea.

Product Description

#LIAR COLOR

The HD color capture system completes the juice makeup as soon as the high-color texture touches your lips. Produces a brilliant tone of face with vivid color.

#LIAR COATING

It is a Oil Drop Tint that oil-wrapped moisture capsules pop out on your lips, and gently polished with a glass-lined coating on the tint to make your lips moist.

#LIAR TATTOO

It is a tattoo tint that gradually permeates for about 10 seconds after application, and is uniformly and strongly coloured on the lips without unevenness.

I think the brand is not as prevalent yet, and I can’t seem to find an official website, so it’s a little difficult to find details such as ingredient lists 😦 sorry readers!

I stood in a Lalavla store for super long just to swatch and pick a colour, because all the colours were so pretty! I eventually decided on #1 Peach, because it’s such a healthy-looking colour.

Packaging: Nothing super special, just your normal block of tint. I do think that the lid/cover is a little difficult to twist open though, it takes me quite a fair bit of effort to do it.

Colour: The packaging colour matches the marketing photos, but it turns out as orange in my photographs above. The swatch is a little orangey though, but when applied on lips, you will find that your lips look much more pink than orange – how strange, right? To be fair, I think it’s because this peachy shade is a little ambiguous, a bit of a mixture between pink and orange. Hence, the colours will tend to look different under different lighting.

Strange colour sightings aside, I really like how great this shade is in making your lips look full, plump, and healthy – kind of like a peach! You can apply just a thin coat of this tint if you like your original lip colour, and the colour will already look good.

Staying power: I thought I had already seen some of the longest-lasting lip tints ever, but it turns out that I was wrong. This, dear reader, is truly in its own league. This is what the marketing materials show:

Initially, I thought they might be exaggerating about the colour being so obvious after 6 hours. A lot of products claim to be long-lasting but fall below expectations, and I’m sure some brands and products come to your mind as well. However, I swatched my lip tint for the photos and 24 hours later, I still can see hints of it on my hand! That’s after multiple washing of hands, a bath, activities, etc. etc., so just imagine how many meals and drinks you can have without worrying that your lip colour will be gone!

In addition, I really love how hydrating this lip tint feels. Some lip tints actually dry out your lips (tbh I’m not sure why), so you have to use lip balm before application or your lips will crack and look nasty. This lip tint actually helps your lips feel well-moisturized: I can vouch for this, having used this in Korea’s dry winter and actually not having my lips crack at all.

Final Verdict

Could you imagine having vibrantly-coloured, healthy-looking lips the whole day without needing to touch up at all? Well, now you can!

Another huge plus point of this lip tint is that it’s affordable (much more so than the more established brands), although not as easily available for retail outside of Korea. If you’re unable to ship this product to your country, make sure to get these in Korea, or ask someone who’s travelling there to help you get it!! I think they are available in Olive Young and Lalavla (both are local beauty drugstores) and retail for about 6000 won, which is much cheaper than online prices.

[REVIEW] Innisfree Creamy Tint

I love lip tints, and I was trying to find one that was not too matte and yet had a strong colour that could last the whole day. I’m also a big fan of Innisfree’s lip products, so I decided to buy this one and try it out.

Ingredient List

WATER, OCTYLDODECANOL, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, OLEIC/LINOLEIC/LINOLENIC POLYGLYCERIDES , Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, DIPENTAERYTHRITYL HEXAHYDROXYSTEARATE/HEXASTEARATE/HEXAROSINATE, SORBITAN STEARATE, HYDROXYETHYL ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE COPOLYMER, TRIMETHYLSILOXYPHENYL DIMETHICONE, CAPRYLYL METHICONE , TITANIUM DIOXIDE(CI 77891), POLYGLYCERYL-2 TRIISOSTEARATE, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL, ETHYLCELLULOSE, PHENOXYETHANOL, PEG-12 DIMETHICONE/PPG-20 CROSSPOLYMER, SODIUM LAUROYL GLUTAMATE, FRAGRANCE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, ACRYLATES COPOLYMER, RED 7 (CI 15850:1), YELLOW 6 (CI 15985), 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, TROMETHAMINE, PROPANEDIOL, RED 28 (CI 45410), ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, RED 33 (CI 17200), ILLICIUM VERUM (ANISE) FRUIT EXTRACT, LAVANDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA (LAVENDER) FLOWER WATER, CAMELLIA JAPONICA FLOWER EXTRACT, BLUE 1 (CI 42090), OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) LEAF EXTRACT, CHAMOMILLA RECUTITA (MATRICARIA) FLOWER EXTRACT

I’m always very impressed by all these natural extracts that Innisfree has in their products. I know they are probably just like tiny traces since they are at the bottom of the list, but you have to give props to Innisfree for really living up to the brand promise.

Packaging: Its very consistent with Innisfree’s usual clean and white packaging for lip products. I do like that the bottom part is translucent, so you can see clearly what colour the tint is without really sacrificing brand packaging consistency.

Colour: I got shade #02 Spring Strawberry Latte. Okay, I have to admit that I bought this when I was still in my ‘pink lipstick’ phase, where I wasn’t into nudes and burgundy and just wanted my lips to look pink. It’s probably a common phase that most people go through, idk. The colour applies as an orangey kind of pink, and I found out that it leaves a very nice peachy tint on your lips after the initial gloss wears off. It’s super pretty, and it looks almost like you applied two different colours with just one product.

I’m currently very tempted to get #1, #7, and #8. Let me know if you have them, and if the colours are as good as the marketing swatches!

Colour payoff & intensity: Lip tints usually don’t fail with the colour payoff, and neither does this one from Innisfree.

Staying power: This one definitely got my stamp of approval. Bonus points for fading to a peachy colour. It’s definitely a pleasant surprise, and I do wonder if it’s intentional. Either way, I still really like how this lip tint can last you for hours, even through oily meals. There’s also a sweet syrupy smell of strawberries, but that one doesn’t last as long upon application.

Final Verdict

Innisfree hardly ever disappoints with their lip products. I know it’s a little surprising because people naturally associate Innisfree with skincare, but take it from me that their lip products are seriously superior. It’s one of my favourite brands to shop lip products at, and I’ve collected most of their product lines, from lip balms, lip tints, to lipsticks.

This is another one that has definitely scored with me, and I’m sure that you will love it too. With a wide range of colours, there will surely be a colour that resonates with you.

[REVIEW] Peri’s Cushion Lips

I was DEFINITELY not planning to buy another lip product anytime soon, but you know I am susceptible to good deals :X (don’t deny it, I’m sure you do that too). I saw this selling at SGD 12 at some Watsons fair and thought the colour was really lovely when I swatched it. Plus, it’s Peripera – their lip tints have never disappointed, so I was sure this would be great as well.

Product Description

Get bright, bold lips this summer! The formula dispenses through a soft cushion for controlled dabbing and application. Once applied, this vibrant stain does not budge!

Official Retail Price: USD 14.00 (Soko Glam)

Ingredient List

Methyl Trimethicone, Diisostearyl Malate, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Silica, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Dimethicone, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Sorbitan Olivate, Red 6 Lake(CI 15850), C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Cholesteryl Isostearate, Titanium Dioxide(CI 77891), Yellow 6 Lake(CI 15985), Sorbitan Isostearate, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Ethyl Hexanediol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Red 7 lake(CI 15850:1), Fragrance, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter

I thought the texture was rather similar to the Airy Ink Velvet, so I’m putting its ingredient list here for comparison:

Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Cyclohexasiloxane, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cyclotetrasiloxane, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, Green Tea Seed Oil, Cotton Seed Oil, Mango Seed Oil, Lithol Rubine BCA, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Tetrachlorotetrabromofluorescein, Titanium Dioxide, Ferric Oxide, Phloxine B, Hydrated Ferric Oxide, Sunset Yellow FCF, Tartrazine, Black Oxide of Iron

I’m pretty surprised to see that the lists are not identical, but you also see that this Peri’s Cushion Lips is missing the various seed oils, replaced instead by a very low proportion of shea butter. I’ll talk more about the texture of the product below.

Packaging: It’s not the prettiest packaging I’ve seen from Peripera. Actually, I think it might be one of my least favourites. It’s not exactly cute, and looks a lot like my highlighters (the stationery product, not the makeup namesake LOL). It theoretically works the same as TFS’s Finger Cotton Tint, but it is a lot harder to control this. I find it very hard to squeeze the product out, and ended up squeezing more than I wanted on the first try. Definitely not my favourite packaging as well.

Colour: The actual swatch looks NOTHING like the one in the marketing photos. So disappointing. I was lucky that I got the chance to swatch this in person before I bought it, instead of ordering it online, because I would have been really upset if it turned out so different when I receive it. Someone should really call out these brands for showing swatches that are not off by a large margin.

Anyway, there were only 2 shades on sale – the other was some bright pink colour that I would probably never wear, so I went with this OR04. I find this colour to be similar to the MISSHA Matt M Lip Rouge’s Maple Latte shade, and this is quite flattering for my warm undertones. If you also have warm undertones, you would most probably like this shade as well.

The colour payoff is okay – it’s not super intense, and will probably take you a two or more layers to get a nice and even colour.

Staying power: I find it to be thicker than the Airy Ink Velvet, almost like a normal liquid lipstick. It dries down to a matte finish on the lips, but I didn’t like how it felt quite dry, and ended up showing all these tiny cracks and fine lines even though I had exfoliated my lips before applying.

I did appreciate the long-wear formula though, because it is definitely good to last for days when you can’t find the time to touch up. True to its words, the stain is hard to budge. I don’t think it’s completely transfer-proof though, so if you are looking to keep the colour as thick and bright all day long, you may be disappointed.

Final Verdict

This is just okay, I guess. I would love to wear this regularly but it really is quite dry for my already-dry lips, and I really hate seeing all these fine lines amplified.

If you are looking for long-staying lip lacquers with good colour payoff and comfort on the lips, I definitely still suggest the Airy Ink Velvet series over anything else from Peripera. It is little wonder that that is one of their star products, because some other stuff (like this product) are rather underwhelming.
