[REVIEW] Etude House Soft Drink Tint

In another episode of ‘Etude House killin’ it with the cute packaging’, I’m here to review one of their cutest lip products – the soft drink tint.

Product Description

Soft Drink Tint colors make the lips look refreshing like a burst of soda.

Official Retail Price: SGD 8

(I think official EH stores have stopped selling, you have to buy from websites like Shopee)

Ingredient List

#RD301 Zero Red :
Polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, red No. 202, polyacrylate crosspolymer-6, ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate / vpicopolymer, steviosolate, glycerin, glycerin, butyleneglycol, polysorbate 20, polyglyceryl- (1), T-butyl alcohol, star anise extract (1) of red No. 104, phenoxyethanol, yellow No. 5, fragrance, capryliliglycol, 1,2-hexanediol, ethylhexylglycerin, propanediol

T-butyl alcohol: colourless oily liquid with a sharp alcohol odour, it is found in ginger
Propanediol: viscous, colorless liquid which is nearly odorless but possesses a faintly sweet taste

Is anyone surprised that you can’t find water in this list? I personally am, because most lip tints tend to contain a high percentage of water. 🤔

Packaging: This is so, so cute. It totally resembles a soft drink bottle, so much so that you may be tempted to drink straight from it (please don’t). I like that it’s small and convenient to carry around, and also closes rather tightly so you don’t have to worry about leakages.

Colour: I find that the shade range is rather limited with just 5 basic colours, but I guess it is sufficient enough to cover most people’s preferences of red, orange, pink, purple, and clear.

The old me would definitely have chosen pink, but these days I’m gravitating towards reds (a sign of maturity/old age? idk), so I picked RD301. It is quite a bright red that’s great for people with warm undertones, but may tend to make your teeth look more yellow. It’s the kind of red that you’ll see many Korean girls sporting (please don’t ask me why, I have no idea), but again I don’t think this is a ‘universal’ kind of red, so use with caution! I think it may have been a little too bright for me because I prefer something darker, like brick red, but I can work around this by creating gradient lips so it looks more subtle.

For those who like a more muted colour, I definitely suggest picking BL601 to bring out your natural lip colour.

Staying power: If you see the last photo, that’s the stain it leaves behind after I tried my best to wipe off all the product. Of course, it’s not super intense, but I think it is a beautiful tint that will still help you to look made-up, rather than give away the fact that you just finished your lunch. I also have to give it props for leaving such an even stain – some products leave your lips all flakey and unevenly coloured, which looks super bad, but this tint from Etude House doesn’t do that.

Final Verdict

I used to be very biased against Etude House’s lip products due to one poor experience I had, but these days I’m really changing opinion, thanks to all these new lippies that are proving to be value for money.

In Korea, you’ll see a lot of young girls (secondary school/high school) going to Etude House to buy cosmetics, because they are cheaper and relatively easier to use for beginners. I have to admit though, the brand is very affordable, very accessible, and really produces items that are good to use. It’s like drugstore price, but at a much higher quality than you expect.

If you love a good, long-lasting lip tint, or are a total beginner when it comes to cosmetics, do get this! I promise you won’t regret it 🙂

[REVIEW] Memebox I’m Meme Tic Toc Tint Lip Cashmere

I wasn’t a very big fan of the brand after a huge chunk of my matte lip crayon broke off, but I decided to give this another try because… well because they got Hwang Minghyun (Wanna One & NUEST) to front this, and I wanted to show some support 😂

Product Description

1. A tint that is moisturizing like a lip balm with a soft matte finish. A velvet-like textured tint that applies with a matte finish and keep the inner lips moisturized and smooth on the outside.

2. Soft cushion tip gives a touch of color and builds for more impact. Rich and high-pigmented moist formula gently and continuously wraps your lips without dryness or flakiness.

3. Natural-looking color. Various colors ranging from orange to red that instantly makes your lips look vibrant with a light finish in a single sweep.

Packaging: I quite like this new packaging style, it’s better than the one they had for the matte lip crayon. However, I have to say that it takes really long to click that button at the end for the product to come out when you first use it. It’s definitely a true test of your patience. The good thing is that subsequently, it gets easier: one or two clicks will be sufficient for the product to appear on the sponge.

Colour: I like to pick colours that are labelled as best picks by the brand ambassadors – I mean, they have to be good if the brand is pushing them so fiercely, right? So I picked 007 My Kinda Coral, and this is how it looks like on Minhyun:

I know it’s called ‘coral’, but I think it leans closer to a terracotta/brown-red shade. It’s super suitable for fall. In fact, it is a colour that will probably stay in trend for very long because these shades are so flattering, especially for Asian skin tones. I feel like I’ve weaned off my pinks & reds, so now all my new lippies sport a similar shade, but you can never have enough of your favourite colour, right?

I do think that this colour is also very similar to that of THEFACESHOP’s finger cotton tint‘s Brown-presso, but a tad more brown.

Colour payoff & intensity: I like how it’s not too intense a colour – make it sheer on the outer parts of the lip, and apply a few more layers on the inside to easily create a gradient lip look. You can also just apply a thin layer to get a natural-looking colour, or swipe a few more times for a full look. Either way, it will still look great!

Staying power: Based on experience, it does stay put through a meal, but don’t expect a full-blown colour. There will just be hints of colour, but enough to make your lips look great.

Also props to the comfortable formula: I expected this to be quite drying and uncomfortable after a while because it dries down to a matte finish, but it was so lightweight that I didn’t feel like I was even wearing lipstick at all!

Final Verdict

I’m definitely giving this brand another go, now that this lip tint has changed my opinion. The colour range is very good (all them MLBB shades!), so I’m definitely going to put the other shades on my shopping list.

The only problem is that these can be rather pricey in Singapore. I know, it’s less than SGD20 (standard price for many lip products these days), but it cost me less when I bought it in Seoul. Ah well, it’s just a price benchmark that you can ignore if you really want to try this out, and I highly encourage that you do, because a good lippie is worth it!

[REVIEW] Etude House Dear Darling Water Gel Tint

This isn’t a new product, but it sure is one that has been raved about by many bloggers and fans. I eventually couldn’t resist finding out for myself whether the hype over this project is justified, so I bought this in Korea and tried it back home in Singapore.

Product Description

The moisture tint expresses sweet color like ice cream as it refreshingly melts into the lips.

Ingredient List

Water, Glyceryl Polymethacrylate, Glycerin, Propanediol, Trehalose, Pentylene Glycol, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Polysorbate 20, Tromethamine, Polyacrylate-13, Titanium Dioxide, Polyisobutene, CI 15985, Fragrance, Dehydroacetic Acid, Sapindus Trifoliatus Fruit Extract, CI 17200, Silica, Alumina

It is little wonder that a ‘watery gel tint’ has a formula that, well, has water in the highest proportion. Some other good ingredients:

Glycerin: good for dry skin
Polysorbate 20: good for fungal acne
Titanium Dioxide: UV protection, good for sensitive skin

Packaging: I’ve hardly seen an Etude House product that doesn’t deliver in terms of packaging. This one is adorably shaped like a popsicle, which I guess does a good job in delivering the idea of lips stained by the sweet syrup from popsicles. It’s relatively small, so it is also easy to carry around.

Colour: While the shade range is not the largest we have seen from lip tints, I think it is sufficient enough to cover most preferences, with pinks, reds, and oranges/apricots. The colour I picked, RD307, looks very red from the bottle alone, but in reality is a lighter shade of red that closely resembles watermelon juice.

Staying power: Do you want to know how insane this staying power is? After I swatched the product to take the photographs above, I found out that the pinkish stain is still visible the next day – now, how amazing is that?!

I’ve found that this lip tint is so long-lasting that you really don’t need to touch up at all even after oily meals. In fact, you could probably even last a whole day with just a few swipes in the morning before heading out – super convenient!

In addition, I really like that this lip tint actually helps your lips feel moisturized, instead of sucking the moisture away from the lips (this could happen to you too, so remember to always put lip balm!) and making it more dry than before.

Final Verdict

After just my first use, I now understood why this Etude House lippie is such a major hit around the world. It is very rare to find a lip tint that not only does not dry your lips, but faithfully keeps the colour intact even when you are eating the oiliest food in the whole world.

I also think this makes for a very good ‘starter product’, for people who are just starting out on makeup. It’s easy to apply, lasts long, and generally completes your look effortlessly.

Naturally, I hope to be able to get the other beautiful shades as well in the future – wish me & my wallet luck!

[REVIEW] MOART Velvet Lipstick

I always find out about new Korean brands on Instagram (thumbs up to the brands that are doing a good job on Insta, you’re really enticing consumers like me :’)) and I saw this in my Explore page, I think. I’m always a sucker for lipsticks and MLBB shades, and I honestly liked their packaging, so I got interested in this new brand that recently launched in Singapore.

What was initially just interest eventually led to a purchase one day when I went to swatch the products for myself…

Product Description

#Fluffy#Fluffy soft and comfortable use #MattLipstick

Without dry and heavy, #Velvet_Texture makes softly contact to your lips

Vivid natural colour resists even using once.

#LongPersist #Hypersensitive #Lipstick

(I know the official description sounds very strange, but I’m guessing that it’s a direct translation from Korean to English)

Ingredient List

Couldn’t find this, sorry about it!

I took very long to decide on a shade (what’s new though) and eventually picked R2 Cotton Rose. It’s a soft pink that I think would work great for both warm and cool undertones, making it a very versatile colour.

Packaging: It’s nothing fancy, but I do appreciate a change once in a while from the cute packaging found on almost all K-beauty products. This kind of reminds me of the toy blocks we used to play as a kid? Actually, it does look a bit like someone took a block of wood and painted the bottom to show the lipstick shade. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining that it’s ugly, but rather a different K-beauty packaging compared to those I am used to.

Colour: I absolutely love this shade!! I still haven’t found a shade that I think is exactly the perfect MLBB colour I want, but this comes really close. It immediately enhances your lip colour if you apply one thin layer on your lips, and takes just a few swipes for a full lip look. The payoff is pretty good, and the colour slides off easily so you don’t have to tug hard for it to appear.

I am a little concerned, however, that the lipstick gives off a faint crayon smell. I’ve smelled that before on a few other lipsticks, which probably expired. I’ve checked my lipstick and it expires in 2021, so I have no idea what is up with this strange waxy smell.

Staying power: As a velvet lipstick, I don’t really expect amazing staying power. I do feel that this lipstick applies more matte than cream, but thankfully doesn’t dry lips out so much as matte products do. Don’t expect the full colour to stay on after a meal, most likely what’s left is just a bit of a ‘tint’. Be prepared, cos you’ll definitely have to touch up on your lipstick after every meal.

Final Verdict

I’m generally feeling quite okay about this lipstick – good, but not super amazing. I obviously love their shades because they are all so wearable, but one thing that bugs me is the smell of wax. I don’t know if it’s a common problem, but I do wish that MOART could do something about it. This can be a turnoff for consumers who are very sensitive to scent and particular about using something that could potentially be a chemical irritant.

Have any of you experienced this weird crayon smell before? Let me know!

Another thing: I feel that SGD20 is a little expensive for a lipstick that doesn’t really boast about its benefits or unique selling points. Other K-beauty brands sell cheaper than that, and with equally good, if not better product quality.

Overall, this is a product that I think it’s safe to try (unlikely to regret purchasing), but not a must-have. Now, if only this it were cheaper and smelt nicer (roses?)…

[REVIEW] Innisfree My Lip Balm

I’m not a big fan of lip balms, but I am a sucker for 1) great packaging and 2) celebrity endorsements. I saw that Wanna One was promoting some Innisfree lip balms with their faces on the tubes and I really wanted to get them; unfortunately, I couldn’t seem to find anyone selling them online at a decent price, so I opted to buy the normal lip balms without the special packaging instead.

Product description

  • Moisturizing My Lip Balm comes with 11 types of rich tea fragrance and vivid colors
  • Natural ingredients keep your lips soft and hydrated all day long
  • How to use: Apply a moderate amount from inside to outside lips gently.

Official Retail Price in Singapore: USD 13.90 (Yesstyle)

Ingredient list

I couldn’t find a full list of the ingredients online, but what they do have are the key ingredients: sunflower oil, cupuacu butter, and jojoba oil.

Sunflower oil: helps the skin retain its moisture

Cupuacu butter: a natural lip balm without any sort of strong, chemical ingredients that is great for chapped lips

Jojoba oil: can help add shine and the appearance of fullness to your lips

I found it really hard to pick a shade, so I went with the easiest method: pick the shade of my favourite member 😂 I went with Mint Earl Grey (#06), which looked like a nice shade of apricot in the marketing photos.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Packaging: I actually quite like the packaging of this lip balm – reminds me of a tube of paint haha, much like my TFS Finger Cotton Tint. What’s also unique is that the applicator is slanted so that it fits your lips better when you are applying it. Of course, the packaging would be even better if there was Wanna One on it HAHA.

Colour: The colour of the product came out a lot more orange than I had initially expected, but it’s not very obvious upon application. It applies like a shiny apricot layer on the skin, which actually looks very nice on lips because it enhances your original lip colour without looking too much like a completely different layer of colour.

I have to say though, the colour payoff isn’t as strong as I had expected it to be. The payoff of Innisfree Glow Tint Lip Balm is quite good, so much so that it looks more like lip gloss than lip balm, while this lip balm is much less pigmented. The staying power of the colour is also rather limited, so I would advise against hoping this will last through an oily meal, or the whole day.

Texture: It leaves a nice, moisturizing gloss on your lips without leaving you feeling like your lips can be glued together by the stickiness.

Effectiveness: I think that having so many moisturizing ingredients in the product really does help, because my lips did feel more supple and less flakey even after staying in a dry, air-conditioned place for long hours. I have yet to test this in super dry conditions (aka Korea’s winter), so I’ll update this again once I’ve done so.

Final Verdict

Frankly, I can’t find anything much about this lip balm to dislike, other than the colour intensity and staying power.

I do think it is slightly pricey though – I got mine for cheaper from a Shopee seller who even threw in a Wanna One photocard for free.

[REVIEW] The Face Shop x KAKAO FRIENDS APEACH Blossom Lip Tint

So I like APEACH, I like TFS, and I like lip tints – this combination is deadly enough to make me surrender into buying this.

Product Description

  • Fresh & tight application.
  • Excellent glassy gloss.
  • Adorable Sweet Apeach design! – Shake it and enjoy the flattery Cherry blossom glitters!

Ingredient List

I haven’t been able to find a full ingredient list online, but let me know if you have a source for this!

They didn’t have many choices for shades and I really wanted APEACH so I went for a pink that I was used to buying for lip tints. This was how it looked like in the marketing materials:

It wasn’t too bright or obnoxious a pink, and I imagined that this would look very good when used for a gradient lip look, so I went ahead to pick this colour.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Packaging: It’s hard to disagree that this lip tint’s packaging is waaaaay too adorable. Besides having APEACH printed on the tube, you have a tiny APEACH in a snowglobe – how cute is that!! It’s so gorgeous that you could probably use it as a decoration for your table, your shelf, practically anywhere that you bring this tint along with. It’s almost like having a pretty snow globe with you everywhere you go. It’s not heavy either, although I do think that it is slightly bulkier than most other lip tints I’ve used.

Colour: I would describe this colour as a strawberry pink, I guess? It makes for a very sweet and bright look, and you can see that the colour applies rather evenly on skin despite being so watery. The strawberry pink colour helps to pump your lips a little, and I found it to very good for creating gradient lips. The payoff is lovely as well, but I do think that I take more than one application in order to have a significant bit of colour on my lips.

I do also think that this may have a formula that is rather similar to Innisfree’s Eco Flower Tint. The colours seem to share similarities, but without the ingredient list for this lip tint, it’s tough to check and say for sure whether these two tints from different companies are close dupes of each other.

Staying power: I personally feel that lip tints should be very long-lasting (since they tint/dye your lips), but not all tints are made the same. This, however, has been fantastic beyond my expectation. I can expect to eat a full meal, drink water, and still expect to see about 70% of colour still on my lips. At the end of a long day in office, I still see traces of the colour even though I haven’t touched up even once. Now, how great is that?

Final Verdict

Cute packaging aside, we all know the K-beauty world is awash with lip tints. What really differentiates one tint from the next is definitely the colour shades, the staying power, and the price as well.

This lip tint isn’t the cheapest tint available out there, but I do think that for the gorgeous packaging, the sweet colours and the long-lasting power it boasts, this particular tint is definitely worth putting in your shopping cart, especially if you are a APEACH or Ryan fan.

Do take note, however, that this isn’t available in Singapore (if you are a SG reader) and I don’t think TFS SG will be bringing it in at all, so you will have to buy from an online retailer or some kind seller in order to get your hands on this.

UPDATE: TFS SG has brought the APEACH collection to Singapore! However, they’ve left out the sunscreen, so you still can’t get it here 😦
