[SMUDGE TEST & SWATCH] Battle of the Mattes – Part I

I’ve always wanted to do tests on my cosmetic products to see exactly how they hold up. While doing a matte lipstick swatch for my Instagram account, I decided to smudge it once to see which ones are smudge-proof.

Products swatched and tested:

3CE Mood Recipe Matte Lip Color

Mamonde Creamy Tint Color Balm Intense

The Face Shop Finger Cotton Tint

Memebox I’m Matte Lip Crayon

If I had to rank the products by how smudge-proof they are, it would be like this:

  1. Memebox I’m Matte Lip Crayon
  2. TFS Finger Cotton Tint
  3. Mamonde Creamy Tint Color Balm Intense
  4. 3CE Mood Recipe Matte Lip Color

Are there are any other products you’d like to see being swatched and put through the smudge test? Comment and let me know! ~

[REVIEW] Mamonde Rose Water Multi Soothing Gel

Before Mamonde arrived in Singapore, I had to order it off Althea, and here I introduce my very first Mamonde purchase.

Product description

  • 100,000 mg light rose water that bursts as water bubbles – Filled with 100,000 mg Damask rose water for effective soothing/hydration, it instantly bursts as water bubbles on the face without stickiness!
  • Hot, scorched skin! Ice soothing care – Feels cool as if it is right from the refrigerator to ice-sooth hot, scorched skin under the UV rays.

Official Retail Price in Singapore: USD 10.05 (Aritaum)

Ingredient list

WATER, ROSE EXTRACT, ALCOHOL, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, GLYCERIN, SCUTELLARIA BAICALENSIS ROOT EXTRACT, SODIUM HYALURONATE, NELUMBO NUCIFERA FLOWER EXTRACT, PRUNUS MUME FRUIT EXTRACT, ACRYLATES/C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, AMMONIUMACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE/VP COPOLYMER, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, TROMETHAMINE, PEG-60 HYDROGENATEDCASTOR OIL, HYDROXYETHYL ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE COPOLYMER, DIMETHICONE, DISODIUM EDTA, PHENOXYETHANOL, FRAGRANCE

This product reminded me of Nature Republic’s Aloe Vera Smoothing Gel (yes, the one with 92% aloe vera), except that this was made with rose water. They do serve similar purposes, which is to soothe, cool and hydrate the skin. Even the tub packaging is rather similar, although I do think this is much prettier haha.

I love the smell of this gel. Although fragrance ranks the lowest on the ingredient list, rose water is the second, so it’s most likely that the lovely rose smell is mostly from the rose water.

I have tried applying this both to my face and my arms, with no breakouts despite the alcohol content. When applied to the skin, you instantly feel a hydrating and cooling effect even if you haven’t kept this in the refrigerator. It takes on a watery texture, which is good because I’m not a fan of sticky and oily gels. The gel gets absorbed very quickly on the skin and leaves you smelling and feeling good at the same time.

Final Verdict

This product is not aimed at any skincare concerns and frankly serves no real purpose except to cool and soothe the skin. You could probably use it as a moisturizer, but I’m not entirely convinced of its hydrating properties.

At a price that is almost double that of a normal aloe vera gel, I would say that this is not really worth it.
