[REVIEW] CANMAKE Quick Lash Curler

I’ve never been a great fan, nor a frequent user of mascaras. It’s not because my eyelashes are naturally fantastic, or that I got extensions, but I have the tendency to slack off with regards to certain steps in my makeup routine when I don’t have the time, which usually happen to be contour, eyeshadow, and mascara. Mascara is the worst of them all tbh – I always have so much trouble curling my eyelashes, making sure my mascara doesn’t clump together etc. etc. – ain’t nobody got time for that in the morning.

One fine day, I went to a departmental store and saw Canmake’s products. I actually tried the tester, headed off, went home after a few hours, and saw that my lashes still looked fantastic. That was when I knew for sure that I had to get this.

Ingredient List

I’m not sure why I’m unable to find the ingredient list for this product anywhere on the web – can anyone enlighten me? 😦 It’s a tad disturbing that this information is not widely available.

Packaging: I love the unique packaging – it’s cute, but a different kind of cute from the usual K-beauty products.

This eyelash curler comes in two types – transparent and black. The transparent one works best if you’re using it before your usual mascara, while the black one helps to add length to your lashes. I bought the black one because why not get an added benefit, right? HAHA.

Effectiveness: I haven’t gotten around to taking before/after photographs but I found this photograph online that is an accurate portrayal of my experience using it:

Look at how curled the eyelashes are after application!! I’m honestly so amazed every time I use this product because my lashes just seem to hold themselves up without me having to use an eyelash curler at all. I reckon there must be some glue-like ingredient in this mascara, because it really holds up very well throughout the day, and frankly, it does look a lot like glue.

Using the black curler also gives the added benefit of having your lashes look longer. I find that it doesn’t give so much volume, and it tends to clump your eyelashes together, which can look pretty weird, so remember to use the comb/any other spoolie to spread them out.

Staying power: This curler’s staying power is NO JOKE. It is so good that it even makes removal difficult. I’ve struggled every single time to get it completely cleaned off my lashes, and no amount of makeup remover and wipes can remove it cleanly. I often have to wipe it off myself using tissue paper AFTER washing my face, and even that doesn’t guarantee that all of the product comes off. I mean, it is great that you have something that will last you through all weather (I can attest to this), but having it almost impossible to remove thoroughly? Well…

Final Verdict

Everything about this product is fantastic, except the fact that it’s so stubborn to remove. It’s the answer to any lazy person’s call for an easy-to-use mascara, and in fact, I would suggest that you don’t even bother with using even more mascara after you apply this. I wish I knew about this product much earlier so I didn’t have to spend money on lash curlers, and didn’t have to struggle throughout all those times that I attempted to get decent-looking eyelashes.

Canmake’s Quick Lash Curler is definitely getting a thumbs-up for me, but you’ve been warned: you might lose a few eyelashes every time you try to remove this.

[REVIEW] Lancôme Grandiôse Smudgeproof Mascara

If I had to pick a product that I know terribly well I’ll love, but just never got around to using it, it’d be mascara. I love how it makes eyelashes look luxuriously long, but I always find it such a hassle because I’ve not had the best experience with some drugstore ones.

I got this free, and I had heard many positive reviews about Lancôme’s mascaras, so I finally got around to trying this out.

Product Description

The 1st swan-neck™ mascara is bent to work with the shape of your face for unprecedented access to all lashes. Corner-to-corner, root-to-tip giving the ultimate in length, lift and volume, all without smudging or smearing. Formula is ultra black glossy, quick drying and is the only formula with rose-cell extract so lashes remain soft and supple. Formula contains less waxes for intense color with no smudging or flaking through the day.

Official Retail Price in Singapore: SGD 41 (Shilla Duty Free @ Changi Airport)

Packaging: I love the packaging already – just look at that rose detail, definitely reminiscent of Beauty & The Beast! (In case you are wondering, Lancôme’s logo is a rose, hence the similarity ~)

As you can see from the product shots, this is definitely designed as a luxurious product from a luxury brand.

The swan-neck applicator really does make things easy so that you don’t fumble or lose control as much during application, which is especially helpful when you’re a beginner to mascara (like me).

Effectiveness: It’s very effective as a mascara – my eyelashes definitely look a lot longer after application. However, I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I find that the mascara is quite clumpy and they make my eyelashes lump together a lot more than I would have liked. The end result is that I often look like I have really few eyelashes. It also doesn’t dry fast, which is slightly troublesome and rather disappointing.

All these issues aside, the best thing about this mascara is that it is as smudge-proof as it promises to be. I used to have problems with my mascara smudging onto my lower eyelids/eyebags which left me with little black specks on my eyebags at the end of the day, and I got so frustrated with the problem that I stopped using mascara completely for about one year. This mascara, however, has worked miracles – it indeed hardly budges, and I can have it still stay intact after a full hectic day, which is honestly amazing.

Final Verdict

It sounds like an exaggeration, but it’s highly likely that this product could be a game-changer in my makeup life.

I’ve always associated mascara with terms such as ‘troublesome’, ‘smudge’, ‘clumpy’. Lancôme’s Grandiôse Smudgeproof Mascara hasn’t actually worked in getting me to remove ‘clumpy’ from my mascara dictionary, but I’m definitely impressed by everything else, especially its staying power.

Would I purchase this in future? Hmm. Let’s just say that I’m pretty hesitant about this because of the price – SGD41 is not something I’m prepared to spend on mascara, coupled with the fact that it tends to clump my eyelashes together without drying fast.
